Regular maintenance

It is common practice within the dental profession to encourage patients to attend for regular dental check-ups. These regular visits are essential in maintaining dental health and diagnosing problems in their early stages.

At Dental Serenity we recommend and provide ongoing care including regular check-ups, x-ray assessment and continual oral hygiene care. This is available each and every patient and in many cases you may only need to visit once a year.

Dietary Advice

We all know that general wellbeing and resistance to disease or infection depends a lot on healthy eating and a balanced diet. But are you aware that your eating and drinking habits also greatly affect the health of your teeth?

Foods that contain sugars can greatly contribute to tooth decay. Almost all foods, including milk or vegetables have some type of sugar, so to help control the amount of sugar you consume you should read food labels and choose foods and beverages that are low in added sugars. Added sugars often are present in soft drinks, lollies, biscuits and pastries.

Tooth-friendly snacks are crackers, rice cakes, popcorn, nuts, cheese slices, peanut butter, vegemite, and butter. Cut-up vegetables with dips such as tzatziki or hummus are an excellent healthy snack. For a balanced diet, children need three pieces of fruit and five vegetables a day, as well as a high intake of grains and protein, and three intakes of dairy products.

Acidic foods can also cause damage to your teeth; wine, diet soft drinks, fruit juice, Citric fruits all can cause acid erosion to your enamel. This can result in sensitivity and encourage tooth decay as well. Minimising these foods, or limiting them to main meals can reduce the damage they cause. Drinking water following their consumption can also reduce the effects of the acidity on your teeth.
